I've been tagged . . .

Right, think I need to cheer things up a bit and Emma has helped because she has tagged me. This time I have to name my most embarrassing record. Unfortunately Youtube won't let me embed this particular link, so please click here
It's embarrassing because my boyfriend and I were both punks. And yes, we used to listen to it together, dressed in all our finery, and yes, we both knew all the words . . .

I'd like to tag Dr Maroon because he loves music; Inkspot because he will find it a challenge; MJ because she's Canadian; Kate because . . . well just because, and Boyo because it'll give him something to do . . . Oh, I would have tagged Gadjo as well but he hasn't got sound . . . Oh flipping 'eck can I just tag everyone?

Oh no! My (five) female cousins used to have that on all the bloody time and I'd suppressed the trauma of it until now! (And an hours time-wasting on YouTube yesterday looking at seventies kids TV didn't find it, either!) You must be ginger.

Scarlet - Thanks for the tag - posted some camp classics which will hopefully bring a smile x

The White Horses, Miss Scarlet? I believe that was a relic from the former Yugoslavia, with voices dubbed in English. It surely inspired many a teenage girl to have sweet dreams about riding horses.

scarlet-blue said...

I'm sorry, but this is getting silly...my word verification is 'ponlists'!!

Sorry Mr Dotterel!!! My boyfriend and I were still listening to it when were 21!

I shall be along shortly Kate!

scarlet-blue said...

Yep, it was indeed dubbed Mr GB ...Yes, what is it about young girls and horses? Taming wild beasts etc...?

LMAO... I knew it in the first six notes! I showed the youtube clip to Ruf only a couple of weeks ago when we were reminiscing about Flashing Blades, Belle and Sebastien and Robinson Crusoe. When I went on my first holiday without my parents several decades ago, I visited the Lipizzaner Riding School in Yugoslavia just to see them :)

scarlet-blue said...

Cakes, I always wanted to go to the Lipizzaner Riding School. Youtube can be incredibly time consuming, can't it?

Is being tagged anything to do with bondage?

Kevin Musgrove said...

"White horses" and "Belle and bloody Sebastian." Every school holiday. No wonder we played out so much them days.

My music collection is beyond embarassment: I have a recording of Adolph Menjou singing 'Two White Arms' that was so bad that the engineers refused to cut a B-side for the record. There is one album I'm ashamed of but it was bought for me as a malicious leaving-do gift to prepare me for coming into my present job.

Dr Maroon said...

But it's a cracking song. I remember it and the tv programme. Didn't we think it was cool at the time?
On white horses, snowy white horses... let...us ...ride away.
Away-ay. Away.

scarlet-blue said...

Famulus: Do you like bondage?

Kev: Come on Kev...tell us more about what you are ashamed of. Please. It's Friday.

Dr Maroon: Yes, it is a nice tune. On the 'B' side was a song about a unicorn. I quite liked that as well.

KAZ said...

I was always too cool (hides Jennifer Rush under cushion).

Famulus said...

Never tried. Open to suggestions and invitations though. This is more a reflection on my current social life than my out-going and adventurous nature...

I think that I have a version of this song by Pinky and Perky.

Gadjo Dilo said...

Scarlet, I also used to have that record!!! And it had a song about a unicorn in the other side, as I recall. Was it by somebody called "Jackie" or has my memory packed in now?

PI said...

I loved that! My grandaughter and family have gone to live in Australia and has just been given a horse called Jack but I've yet to see a photo so don't know the colour.
I wonder if that was shot in Clovelly?

scarlet-blue said...

Kaz: Do you have any Bucks Fizz vinyl?....I do but please don't tell anyone.

Infamous: Or is it Famulus...My craw good enough now is it??? Yep...I had the Pinky and Perky album too.

Gadj: I'm going to tear my house apart looking for this single now...you do realise that....looking it up on the internet is not the same as finding the record. Why is this?!

Pat: I love Clovelly!...it does look as steep as Clovelly doesn't it. But as Mr GB said, the filming, I think was done in Yugoslavia.

Famulus said...

Just as soon as I find out exactly what a craw is I shall establish what a standard one is like. If you would be so good as to let me examine yours, I can then decide as to how yours measures up.

Until such a time...

I cast no aspersions on your craw at all.

I wonder if I have one...

I'll give you a craw you cunt.
Fuck off while you still have your teeth stroke dignity.
Get a fucking life. Stop blogging.
Join a club. Go for walks. Masturbate more imaginatively. Do something.

Clarissa, can I have a word?
An adjoining room is free I think.

Embarrasing?

My friends tell me that I should be ashamed to admit that I have Diamond Dolls on my playlist...
er not Bowie's Diamond Dogs, which I adore, but one of the best Pop songs from the 80s that my 20 something daughters and I still sing at the top of our lungs at every opportunity.

Oddly enough it was performed by Alvin's Chipmunks and Chipettes.

Had this ditty been recorded by a more mainstream band it would have easily been number one.
I defy you to find a catchier chorus?
This is Hook City baby!

Here is the link, just try to get this earworm out of your system, c'est pas possible!

enjoy.

scarlet-blue said...

Good morning Mr Coppens! I have now listened to Alvin and the Chipmunks. Probably easier to cope with Alvin and than the Chipmunks than Mrs P and Dr Maroon right now...
Anyhow, I closed my eyes and it was like listening to Pinky and Perky all over again...Do you know about Pinky and Perky?

Pinky and Perky or is that Mrs P and Dr Maroon....How are you feeling this lunchtime? Ha, too late for mass deletions!

Hello Infamous, erm... don't feel used and abused... Scazza is here.... but maybe you should get up out of the trench now.... dust yourself down etc... women eh?

Sx

Famulus said...

Tee hee hee. I was never in the trench. I have a man that dug it for me. No matter.

So, the 'ere Dr Maroon chappie, he'd not appreciate Mrs P's flutterings in my direction then?

Once again, I'm devastated.

You busy Scarlet?

scarlet-blue said...

Ah Infamous, You was messing wiv Maroon's bird. But she was being a bit of a tease, calling you a 'pulchritude'....that's enough to bring any young man to his knees....
Sx

Famulus said...

Dr Maroon, I hereby declare that I shall not lay a hand on your beloved and I shall put you outburst down to the effects of the night before.

May I suggest however, that you keep your good woman (or at least her Mac) on a tighter rein in future. There's a good boy.

Ginro said...

My boyfriend and I were still listening to it when we were 21!

Recent repeats then surely :)

I'm glad some of the others mentioned 'Belle and Sebastian' and 'Robinson Crusoe'. I have to admit I liked Robinson Crusoe, and can still remember the theme tune.

But Belle and bloody Sebastian!!! Aaaaaaargh! My brother and I used to run around taking the mickey all the time - "Belle Belle!"

And I just had a power cut which screwed everything up temporarily... It's like being back in the old days, lol.

scarlet-blue said...

Ginro: 'White Horses' was the first single I had as a kid... we dug it out sometime later and went all stupid and nostalgic. Robinson Crusoe rings a bell! I loved Black Beauty...I had that flipping album as well!

Famulus: Mrs P is a wilful thoroughbred.... uncontrollable!

Sx

Mrs Pouncer said...

Scarls, delete Maroon's vile comment immediately! It is slander. Or libel. It is almost certainly actionable, and he hasn't got the stamina for a protracted court case, or the wherewithal for damages.

Word vert. warbil.

Famulus said...

Scarlet, this is now apparent...

In which case, you have my sympathies Dr M. Although I can see the attraction, obviously. ;-)

My sister used to watch Black Beauty but vinyl eluded us at that age. (Pinky and Perky being the exception, of course.)

Last night I felt the urge to remind myself of my TV entertainment during the 70s and 80s. The first set of results was posted to my blog in the wee hours.

I really must sleep more...

Famulus said...

Mrs P, I must confess...

I was never after your thighs. I am in fact a mole fancier and I would have caught the bugger had he not made it to the sanctity of your basement when you distracted me with the view up from the trench.

However, being as fickle as I am, I am now entranced by the craw possibilities that seem to here abound.

Scarlet, craw for me! (I'm going to assume that this noun can be turned into a verb. They usually can, thanks to Americans...)

Word ver. oveness - Cool. :-)

Dr Maroon said...

Famulus, A classic case of transferance, projection.
What I say to you I am saying to myself.
I must get a life.
1000 apologies.
and 1000 to you too scarlet.

Mrs Pouncer said...

I should think so, too. Absolutely appalling behaviour. Really, you sank to the depths last night, Maroon. You reminded me of Kevin Rogers at his worst.

Famulus said...

Dr M. Apologies accepted, although where the hell I'm going to store 1000 of the little buggers I have no idea. Probably going to have to set them free back into the wild.

Heaven knows what Scarlet will do with her's...

scarlet-blue said...

I am sleeping. Will somebody turn out the light... or put a nice tune on... or something.
God, I fancy a huge wedge of chocolate cake and a cup of tea...

Ahhhh.... someone's a bin deleting!!!

MJ said...

Because I'm Canadian?

If you want Celine Dion, you'll have to post her yourself!

scarlet-blue said...

Celine Dion? MJ? I'd forgotten she was Canadian! I apologise I was casting no aspersions. Okay, I admit it, my worst piece of vinyl must be The Bay City Rollers 'Rollin' .... see Mj... nothing can be that bad.... And I used to wear cropped trousers with lots of tartan...

librarylizzie said...

Scarlet...this has been driving me mad. I had a fantastic cover version of White Horses in the 80s, but I'll be buggered if I can find it now. However, in doing a bit o' surfing to try to track it down I have found this version. Shades of Twin Peaks, or is it just me?
[word ver. scurate]

Practically Joe said...

"Happy Birthday to You"
Yes ... I did have it on vinyl.
Played it all the time ... til my dad used it as a frisbee.

scarlet-blue said...

Ah Lizzie that's lovely. I have The Twin Peaks theme by Julie Cruise. I have just located my 'White horses' single! 'The Unicorn' is on the B side but it doesn't say who the recording artists are!! Nice colourful illustrated graphics on the cover and a drawing to colour in on the back. It's dated 1970.

Joe, Sweetheart, that's very sad.

Beasty, is that a whole album worth of Babara Cartland love songs? Why Beast, why would you own such a thing... I can't believe it exists... I will have to search....

Dotterel, Yes apparently I am in a high risk category... but they seem a little young... even for me...
