Checking In

MJ IS BACK!!!!!

I don't know why favourite blog Informaniac has been deleted. Maybe it's because Blogger has been adding new bits and bobs to our dashboards... but maybe it is censorship? Anyhow, I have more or less used all the credit on my phone trying to keep up with it all. I am upset. I will be checking out Wordpress when I get home - I might be going upmarket! I'm not staying on blogger if they're going to delete blogs willy nilly... or even blogs with willys... end of.

****UPDATE**** MJ's comments are still vanishing from blogs so if you want to keep her words then click the email comments box. Hopefully this problem will sort itself out. I am having a bit of a mare with my new Wordpress blog and as Leni points out, they may well be more prudish there.
Meanwhile, I had an extremely exhausting weekend, I will be remaining in my bath chair out on the patio until I feel better. I feel better than I did yesterday so there is hope.

blimey, not only has the blog disappeared, mj's comments seem to be awol too. is it the new cultural revolution?

Fortunately this blog is as clean as the driven snow. Not a hint of innuendo or double entendre.

A smut-free recommendation from a clergyman. Blogger can't close you down now.

we're all amazed, sugar! xoxoxo

It is very worrying. And infuriating.

Very disturbing news. Can Blogger really be unilaterally censoring their users? On what basis exactly?

My blog's as clean as the driven snow as well. Absolutely nothing about sex aids, homosexuality, tight-fitting jeans, knee-tremblers or any such scurrilous filth. Blogger has nothing to fear.

I've thought about migrating over to WordPress for quite some time but am too lazy to do anything about it.

Nick: I suppose Blogger can do anything they damn well feel like without any fear of repercussions. That goes for WordPress, as well.

They have a very very general content policy, leaving it open to discretion to slam down the gate on a blog. I think it's enraging. Seemingly pointless. And MJ's blog gone is nothing less than heartbreaking...

Blogger is becoming the Fourth Reich. I am thinking of moving.

update,
I just tried out blogger's new design options, cancelled without applying the changes and was told my blog address was "no longer available" HELP.

I was then offered the chance to view a cashed version of the site. That didn't work!

So I shut my browser page and tried again from a link in my emails and got back into the blog.

Maybe MJ wasn't so luck cos it looked as if my blog was gone for a minute and who knows what would have happened if I'd carried on tinkering.

moral: don't trust blogger's new design options ...

I don't know of this blog of which you speak - what did it feature? As for Word Press - I find the layout to be very cold but I couldn't really explain why that is so?

I must go and find about this Informaniac now...

If on your dashboard you choose to export your blog, you will have a saved version which can be directly imported in to wordpress and most other bloggy sites.
If you fear disappearing, export after you post and you'll have a backup.
I think Wordpress design templates etc are a bit retro, but it has lots of other nice features.
Of course, you can always pay to have your page hosted and then nobody will mess with your content.

EmmaK said...

I hope MJ is fine - maybe she was too harsh with the houseboys and they deleted her blog and have now tied her up and are using her as a sex slave. Just a thought. I am worried for her though.

Down with censorship and up with willys!

BEAST said...

It's a disgrace Miss Scarlet.there will be rioting in the virtual streets you mark my words . Will Fridays ever be filthy again :-(

It could well end up being a wordpress revolution, sort it out blogger!

dinahmow said...

Well, I went to Wordpress when Blogger was crashing every 5 minutes.

As to MJ being censored...it's possible that someone took exception to her content, but the blog did have a content warning. No one is forced to read such pages.

good grief! word verification is tasterr. Sounds dodgy to me!

Eryl Shields said...

Blogger is behaving monstrously, but if anyone can sort them out it's you.

@ French Fancy - there is nothing left to find out. Eh?
We have to wait for next spring, when the mighty Knitting Blog will return. For those not familiar with what happened, maybe a look at Leni Qinan's blog may be helpful.

MJ is back!!!
Good job to because I am exhausted after a long journey and a weekend with very little sleep.
I am now going to take my bath chair on to the patio and watch the cows.
...I really need to sleep, all this drama has taken its toll... I've also accidentally applied a new template to my blog and can't seem to get the old one back... that'll teach me to mess around with things I don't fully understand. I will look at Wordpress when I wake up. MJ'S comments have disappeared into the ether, which is heartbreaking... it's going to look like I was talking to myself of many of Mr Beastie's posts!

nick said...

Funny, I rather like the new design....

Scarlet Blue said...

Nick: It's alright... but I wanted to keep the old one...
I'm overtired. I doubt I will make much sense for a few days.

Dave said...

Welcome home, anyway.

EmmaK said...

Hurrah! Justice has prevailed regarding MJ

was the deletion of her blog simply an administrative cock up (pun intended)?

Clyde said...

Well welcome home
Ah, how peaceful watching the cows.
Not so peaceful hearing the bull roar in the morning

absurdoldbird said...

Wordpress is much better than Blogger... but then, I'm biased, I use wordpress. I've tried Blogger several times and never got on well with it.

Is it cow watch now? No more whale watching, bird watching, train spotting ... I like cows. They are genuinly friendly.

Scarlet Blue said...

Sorry. I'm in a strop because I've messed up my template here and even though I've downloaded a pic for my Wordpress profile - it still doesn't work.
I'm usually quite good at this sort of thing.
So now I am very, very stroppy. Probably a good idea for me to log off and look at it the morning.

I'M BACK, I'M BACK!!!

Thanks to Eroswings who led the campaign and to all of you who supported the cause.

YAY!

Although I STILL haven't been given a reason for the removal.

Kevin Musgrove said...

Glad you're back, even in a strop.

Wordpress gets a bit of getting used to and benefits from the KISS principle.

And I like your new Blogger template, so there!

Leni Qinan said...

Scarlet,

Thanks for stopping by my blog to tell me about MJ's blog comeback. I'ts the news of the day, indeed.

Before you move to Wordpress -which was my idea too- please, read carefully the Terms of Service. They appear to be more strict than Blogger.

Take care.

63mago said...

Good Morning Scarlet.

Scarlet Blue said...

Kev: Go on then - what's the KISS principle?!

Mr Mags: Good morning, Mr Mags. I am not so much the monster this morning/afternoon.

Scarlet Blue said...

Both Leni and MJ have left comments here and they both have vanished.
Nightmare.

Dear Scarlet,

I thought the comments issue was fixed but they keep disappearing, just as MJ's and it's very annoying.

I've submitted to Blogger help the same question 3 times: "Where are my comments? What can i do to bring them back?", but I got no answer, as if I didn't exist. I really really hate Blogger.

It was worse 2 days ago: I had to comment anonymous too in my own blog. What a shame.

Scarlet, I insist, before moving to Wordpress please read carefully their TOS. They sound even more strict than Blogger's, though Blogger states that they allow nude pics and sex contents (BIG LOL), provided that there's an adult warning message (then why did they shut down MJ's blog????).

I'm thinking about creating my own website. I guess this is the only solution left -I won't have to worry about any Terms of Service but mine-, but that may take me some time because I'll need assistance.

Thank you very much for letting everybody know about these issues.

Read fast, this message will disappear in a few hours!

I hope you feel better today. ;)

Looks like I got back just in time to find out we are all being deleted for smut. I am sorry I missed the campaign. Will there only be cookery and knitting blogs left then?
I have also come back to find all these new scary options. I am going back on my hols a.s.a.p.

LL Cool Joe said...

Wordpress seems even more uptight and prissy to me. I don't know MJ, appears I've missed out. Story of my life.

63mago said...

Interesting new template. Leni moved already. I just come from her new location.

MJ said...

Boo. My comment disappeared.

wendy house said...

Love the new theme :-)

If you want a 'demo' with a wordpress blog that has lots of content and plug-ins then lets arrange to meet somewhere and I'll bring my laptop and dongle and we can fiddle. I moved to Wordpress in 2006 after trying out lots of different systems. I picked it because of the easy controls, flexibility, power and because there is a 'paid for' version (which I dont use) so I could get a better service if I was prepared to pay for it. I host my wordpress on my own server... ...I dont know what their free hosting is like....

Scarlet B, I hope you're feeling better. Returning home after a journey always wears one out. Take care of yourself.

We're now focusing our group efforts to return the missing comments to our blogs (and to MJ's and Leni's blogs). We've won a major victory to restore Infomanaic; it's a fantastic win! But the war for free speech wages on, and we continue the fight!

MJ said...

Boo. My comment disappeared.

I noticed! And we're doing something to get Blogger to fix it! Keep up the good work people, spreading the word and participating in our work to ask Blogger at the Blogger Forum why the comments have disappeared and to return them now. Thank you for your support!

Ooh I like your new borders. Very fancy, very luxurious. Makes me feel like I'm reclining on a plushy chaise longue, nonchalantly imbibing your latest offering.

Scarlet Blue said...

I think I should now try to keep up some semblance of normality - recent events have thrown me a little... so to continue...

Dave: Trust you to know the answer...

Dave: Do I look like I would kiss and tell???

Kerrie: Yes, I was away for the weekend; it's Thursday and I'm only just emerging from my duvet. It's all been a bit disturbing - bit like a virtual car crash.

Mr Cool: Click on MJ's link in the post, she is back now but her comments are still vanishing - blink and you miss her.

Mr Mags: I will check out Leni's new home - I don't know why I haven't visited her before, to be honest.
My new border - oh yes - not sure if it's staying yet, but at least I found out that I could still use the old blogger templates - they're becoming quite rare now.

MJ: I can see your comment!!! Let's hope it stays... you keep vanishing like Cinderella at midnight. Mr Swings has instigated another campaign to get your comments back. I copied and pasted his question on the Blogger forum; the Dark UFO person replied to me - which was a bit of a shock... he's going to speed up the process with Google.
Link to forum

Wendy: So when are you next in Devon? If nothing else, I'd like to back up my advert posts on Wordpress - I do have most of them drafted in Word, but not all of them... and I don't have the Youtubes in Word.

Mr Swings: Yes! We have been busy this morning! And it just goes to show that being blonde has its uses!

Nick: I'm not sure if they're staying, but they brighten the place up for the time being - I'm just very grateful that I figured out how to revert to the old template. Because I use a cronky old laptop the new templates make scrolling down very jerky. Is it my cronky old laptop or is it the new templates that are causing this?

Borderline?

TechnoBabe said...

Shocked, I tell you, shocked! You have a totally new look and I thought I got routed to a wrong blog. I hear so many bloggers saying they are having problems this past week. Ugh.

nick said...

I scrolled down smoothly enough. It must be your laptop.

63mago said...

I saw you over at my site!

Madame DeFarge said...

Hope the bath chair has nice bubbles in it.

Scarlet Blue said...

Mr Mags: Are you saying that my smart new borders are... borderline???
No, I'm not sure either, but I thought it would make a change - they can easily be removed.

Techybabes: Hmmm... you avoid saying whether you like the new look??? It's okay, you can tell me the truth....????

Nick: I can scroll okay on my blog now, because this is an old blogger template with a jazzed up theme put on top... but I'm having a mare with the new blogger templates they give me jerky scrolling... and at Fairyhedgehog's I go up and down for sometime before being able to click on comments. I will persevere. I need a new laptop...

Mr Mags: I know!!!!! I am chuffed that I succeeded!

Madame D: I am now standing on the patio waiting for a summer shower... I have progressed!

Dave said...

You say that your new borders can easily be removed?

Odd, at first glance they reminded me of you in a gingham dress, with lacy petticoats. Now that, surely, couldn't easily...

Ah. I see where my subconscious is leading me.

I liked the new template. Ah well. Hope you recovered from your last weekend, ready for this weekend.

See what new joys await.
