Being Brave

I have never been brave. I've been thinking about it and I've never done anything brave. If I were a character in a disaster movie then I would be soooo over within the first five minutes - I wouldn't be the heroine of the picture despite my obvious good looks.
I passed my driving test with one minor fault, not because of confident bravado, but because I was terrified. I still grip the wheel with grim determination not to hit anything. This, I suppose, is a good thing, but after ten minutes of driving I'm knackered due to intense concentration. Driving to the shops to buy food is still an ordeal. I still can't park properly so sometimes I go hungry.
I'm not really the person you want to be with in a crisis. Not the type of person you want to be stuck in a lift with - I would sob heavily and use up all the air.
I am good at interiors and soft furnishings... and good at painting wooden furniture. I'm good at buying shoes and I know that there are 70 calories in a McVities Digestive biscuit. I know this because I can read labels. I have rescued a few cats in my time. Once I rescued a kitten from a car engine.
Anyhow, this week I have to be brave. Let's hope my driving skills aren't needed. Let's hope that there are cushions to be arranged and plumped and pets to look after...
Hopefully I will be re-opening properly next week and many thanks. In the meantime, here is a tune...

Miss Scarlet, I think you will do fine! xXx

PS: Easy on the cushion plumping. That's getting into my pillow fluffing gig at MJ's. :)

Why all this talk of bravery? Why are you measuring your words now? This is not the Scarlet who makes me laugh.

That Scarlet doesn't ask for quarter. I've seen that Scarlet take the best shot of an ass, avoiding the hit while doing the Ali ShuffleI want that Scarlet back! I've missed her.U

Madame DeFarge said...

Scarlet - bravery isn't all it's cracked up to be. Sometimes just accepting that you are unbrave is good enough. Whatever it is, don't plump the pets and look after the cushions. That might get people worried. Which of course, none of us are. Honest.

Your return, in whatever state, is to be welcomed.

Kevin Musgrove said...

Do look after the cushions: sometimes they're the only ones following the plot on 'Lost.'

Look after yorself.

:: Wendy :: said...

Hugs are the best. Take lots of hugs with you. I'll send you few special delivery.

fairyhedgehog said...

I'm thinking of you and wishing you all the best for whatever this week brings. I wouldn't worry about being brave. Just aim to come out the other side.

KAZ said...

Thanks for keeping in touch with us.
So glad you rescued that kitten - I'll try to do the same for you if necessary.

Whirlochre said...

There's no easy way to prepare for being brave — I suppose that's the whole point.

As for the cushions, a Napoleon hat never fails to lighten a dark corner.

Mrs Pouncer said...

Have e'd you. Cx

BEAST said...

Just being there and being yourself is better than 'bravery' Miss S :-)

Scarlet-Blue said...

Mr XL: I shall be a pillow fluffing understudy then!

Mr U: Ah... apolgies for the wilted Scarlet. I will ask Mr XL to ruffle me.. he's good at that sort of thing.

Madame D: I have been accused of making pets plump!

Kev: I think that Lost was written especially with cushions in mind.

Wendy: Thank you Wendy. And received with appreciation.

Fairyhedgehog: And thank you for the chocolate! I dunked some this afternoon... and this evening.

Kaz: It makes me want to always check under my bonnet before driving anywhere!

Mr Whirly Can I make a lamp out of the Napoleon hat?

Gorilla Bananas said...

Hairy good wishes, Miss Scarlet, I'll be thinking of you.

Scarlet-Blue said...

Mrs P: Thank you, I have replied! Sxx

Mr beastie: Indeed! I think you are right.

Scarlet-Blue said...

Mr Bananas: Thank you Mr Bananas! Smooth depilated hugs back.

PI said...

As a coward I think that we are the truly brave ones because we face our fears in spite of them. And the relief afterwards is palpable.
Sending you all the dutch courage I can muster.xox

MJ said...

Yay! You're on your way back!

A Miss Cream has been keeping Beast from running amok in the meantime.

But listen to Beastie because (and you know I hate to admit this), he is actually right for a change...although he still smells bad.

CyberPete and I will take you shoe shopping.

@XL: You are my Official Pillow Fluffer. There is always a job for you serving Mistress MJ.

Miss Scarlet can make the tea and serve us McVities Digestive biccies.

Scarlet-Blue said...

Pat: Thank you Pat! I'm sure you have loads of courage really. Sxx

MJ: Yep, Mr beastie is often right... apart from his dubious taste in purple lurex posing pouches.
Ah yes, Miss Cream...! Sxx

eroswings said...

I wish you great strength and peace in your time of need. You are brave, because you're doing the things that need to be done, whether you want to or not. You will be in my thoughts.

Scarlet-Blue said...

Mr Swings: Thank you Mr Swings. Hugs. Sxx

I am in the expectation ! For lack of hairy embraces to the Gorilla ,one to stretch and affectionate kiss !!?

underOvr (aka The U) said...

No apologies are required...you must know I only try to make light of things in my own feeble way.

As I have said, "I have missed your presence". I am happy you've returned.

Anonymous said...

No idea what you are talking about, but I have total faith that you'll succeed.

Ponita in Real Life said...

Oh dear Scarlet, I will send you some of my bravery and stoic-ness, of which I often have too much... I grow weary of being brave and stoic.

Whatever it is that you have to do, let me help you with that... by being here if you need someone to watch your back.

After all, that is what friends are for... and it would appear you have many here, all standing behind you, ready to help in any way we can.

Big hugs to you!

Dave said...

You've had quite enough support and hugs from everyone else, so let me just add that I got a Cadbury's Creme Egg for Easter, and I'm keeping it in my fridge in case you ever call round to plump up my cushions.

Gadjo Dilo said...

And a great toon, too. I'm with Tony Hancock's attitude on being stuck in a lift: "Anybody got any sleeping pills on them? One each all round and we'll forget about it till the morning."

Lulu LaBonne said...

I find baking a terrific bolster - but failing that a bottle of Bolly might help - whatever it takes I'll be looking forward your return to form

librarylizzie said...

I'm brilliant in a crisis...it's just the rest of my life that is a total f*** up. You have enough kisses and hugs so i'm sending sympathic hand holding and jammy dodgers (The ones with jam and cream)

Seriously, let me know if there is actually anything practical I do...

Autolycus said...

A deep breath and take each mini-step as it comes: you'll be surprised how big a stride they'll mount up to in the end.

All the best...

I do hope you're not going through the same sort of scary thing I did. Hugs.

savannah said...

scarlet, sugar, YOU are absolutely delicious and will get through this thing. you have my heart, babygirl and i'm keeping good thoughts for you! (and mu last bag of cadbury mini easter eggs!) xoxoxox

Eat Parsley Scarl, it works every time with the bravery thing, failing that rescue remedy. Chin up old girl...x

Beastie still smells bad HOW RUDE! Its not me suffering with the dreaded
Levitating Nightime Flatulence and trying to pass it off as demonic possession

Daphne Wayne-Bough said...

Chin up tits out Scarls. Big breath .... for such a small girl. (by the way is that you in that new sitcom "All the small things", the little lass with the peroxide hair?)

It'll be OK. You'll see.

Kate Lord Brown said...

Hope you are ok - will e xxxxxxx

EmmaK said...

Oh darling hope things get better. We rely on you to be the human equivalent of a sunny side up egg. You are deliciously tasty and optimistic. Thinking of you doll and may everything turn out fine.

Scarlet-Blue said...

Mr Maps: Many Thanx... I hope I don't get run over!

Crabbers: Kisses back!

Mr U: ;o)xx

Fammy: Many Thanx!

Ponita: Yes, you are very brave. Thank you for your kind words. *Hugs back*

Dave: Have you not dunked that egg yet?! Tut. I will have to show you how it's done.

Gadj: Indeed! I think I will have a few stiff drinks...

Lulu: Good idea! I still have a bottle of Moet and Chandon in the fridge. I will crack it open next week.

Lizzie: Thank you! Hand holding is a good idea too. So are Jammy Dodgers!!

Mr Auty: Thank you! Wise words.

Jane: Life is full of trip-ups and hurdles. I will be back next week, whatever! [Fighting talk!]

Savvy: I will be over to claim the eggs next week! xoxoxox

Sarah: Ha! I like the brandy that's in the Rescue Remedy!

Mr Beastie: Do you have the gurgly type of flatulence instead, Mr Beastie? All those bananas etc... fermenting fruit...

Daphne: Oh I meant to watch that! But yes, chin up! Tits out!

Kate: Thank you!

Emma: Thank you too! And you're right. I will put my optimistic head on. Cheers.

Thanks everyone for being here. Sx

You prolly weren't expecting the SPANISH INQUISITION!

Cardinal Kopenjz:
Now, young lady -- you have one last chance.
Confess the heinous sin of heresy, reject the works of the ungodly -- *two* last chances.
And you shall be free -- *three* last chances.
You have three last chances, the nature of which I have divulged in my previous utterance.

I don't know what you're talking about.

Right, Fetch the SOFT CUSHIONS! If that's the way you want it... Poke her with the soft cushions!

Kopenjz: Confess! Confess! Confess!
Biggles: It doesn't seem to be hurting her, lord?
Kopenjz: Have you got all the stuffing up one end?
Biggles: Yes, lord.

Kopenjz [angrily hurling away the cushions]:
Hm! She is made of harder stuff! Cardinal Fang!
Welcome home Scarls. :)

Blimey, look who's back. I'll read this properly later. PS I posted a nice topless photo at the end of my latest post for you.

Just thought I'd pop by and say hello. Being brave is sooooooo over-rated. Ther's always someone out there who's just that little bit braver - so what's the point?! You sound quite brave enough x

Look at all these comments, isn't one popular... Thought I'd stop by to check out your blog, and my word, I wasn't disappointed. And what a chooooOOOOOooooon.

Eryl Shields said...

Bravery can be so dull so it's no surprise that you are a little lacking in it. It sounds like you have just the right amount to get you through, which is always the best amount of anything – except perhaps cake – to have. XXX

Chairman Bill said...

I was brave once. It's a much overrated virtue - on par with honesty.

Nota Bene said...

I would like to be with you in a crisis...then I'd look brave. Even though I'm not.

fairyhedgehog said...

Hope you're OK.

I love this record. It has been playing over an advert for some upcoming prog on the Beeb I think and has become an ear worm that seems peculiarly relevant for my world atm.

I dont know why you need courage, but let's be brave together. Glad to have you back x

My parents are in France, driving around in the mountains with friends. Then someone called me from a French phone number the other day.

I just couldn't answer it. I was so scared that it would be bad news. Eventually I did call my mother on her mobile and they were fine. She had just borrowed a local phone and wanted to "check in" as she called it. Naturally I tore her a new one and now if their plane crashed and burned tomorrow that would be bad.

I'm bravado deprived

Anonymous said...

Just saying "hello".

Scarlet-Blue said...

Mr Marks: MORE PLEASE!!!

Maternal Tales: Hello and welcome! Ack [as savannah would say], I have my moments!

Mr Marks: Yep, makes you wonder how he still manages to walk?

Fields: *Swooooooon* *goes giggly and falls over*

Eryl: True, you can never have too much cake! Many thanks.

Mr Chairman: Hello and Welcome! I will be along to visit you soon...

Nota Bene: Hello and Welcome! I think I make most people look brave!

Fairyhedgehog: ;o) Thanks, I'm back now.

Cakes: Yep, hugs to you too. And we will be brave together.

Pete: You can have some of my bravado, I'm getting good at it!

Mago: Hello too! Thanks.
